Ernest Edward Collar


Died of wounds on 11/11/15 aged 24. Ernest was Private 6127, 7th Bn. East Surrey Regiment. He was the son of Walter and Mary Ann Collar of 22 Colville Terrace, Bayswater, London. His brothers Frederick George and Frank Archibald also died in service. Born at Paddington he enlisted in London. MIC- Victory, British War and 1915 Star medals. He landed in France on 1/6/15. He is buried at Kensington (Hanwell) Cemetery, 166. 88.

“Collar. Ernest, Private. No. 6127, 7th (Service) Battn. The East Surrey Regt.

3rd son of Walter Collar, of 22 Colville Terrace, Bayswater, by his wife Mary Anne, daughter of Joseph Page, of Basildon; born Westbourne Park, London W.9. Oct. 1891; educated St. Stephens School, Westbourne Park; was a Booking Clerk on the Bakerloo Tube; enlisted in Nov. 1914; went to France 3 June 1915, and died in Wharncliffe War Hospital, Sheffield, 11 Nov. following, from wounds received in action at Battle of Loos. Unmarried”.
