James Critchley

Died of shrapnel wounds on 7/12/17 aged 23. He was Rifleman 241027 2nd/5th South Lancashire Regiment. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Critchley of 216 Watery Lane, Sutton, St. Helens. He was born and enlisted at St. Helens. James is buried at Sutton (St. Nicholas and All Saints) Churchyard, A.E. 23. We have it on authority that his real age was 20, not 23. Also that he was a miner from a mining family. MIC – Victory, British War and 1915 Star medals. Landed France on 6/5/15. Old number – 1/5th S. Lancs. Rgt. 3148.
