Thomas Foster

 

Died on 22/7/1918 aged 47. He was Lance Corporal 05942 Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Born at Marchington-Woodlands, Staffordshire, he enlisted at Uttoxeter. The husband of Elizabeth Foster of 21 Stone road, Uttoxeter. He is buried at Uttoxeter Cemetery, New. I. 1789. MIC reads – Victory, British War and 1915 Star medals, landing in France on 15/9/15.
His grandson relayed this to me –

‘my grandfather Thomas Foster died there (Wharncliffe) on July 22nd 1918, just before his 47th birthday, he worked for the original Bamfords of JCB fame when they made agricultural machinery in Uttoxeter. His experience as a fitter was used on the big guns of WW1’.
