Solomon Clive Griffin

 

Died of wounds on 16/8/1916 aged 26. He was Lance Corporal 4170 47th Bn. Australian Infantry. A.I.F. The son of William and Honoria Louisa Griffin of Thorpedale, Via Jackson, Queensland, Australia. Born in New South Wales. Solomon is buried at Wadsley Churchyard, Sheffield, 3. His papers survive at the Australian Archives. He is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, on Panel 143 in the Commemorative area.

"Studio portrait of 4170 Private (Pte) (later Lance Corporal) Solomon Clive Griffin, 15th Battalion, of Thorpedale, via Jackson, Qld. Formerly a grazier, Pte Griffin enlisted on 6 September 1915 and as part of the 13th Reinforcements, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 3 January 1916. He served later with 47th Battalion on the Western Front where he died of wounds on 16 August 1916, aged 26".
