Joseph Swinbank

 

Died of Tetanus following gun shot wound and amputation of his left foot on 7/10/1916 aged 22. Joseph was Driver 14569 14th Bn. Durham Light Infantry. MIC reads – Victory, British War and 1915 Star medals, landing in France on 11/9/15. Born at West Auckland, he enlisted at Bishop Auckland and resided at Witton Park, Durham. He was the son of David and Elizabeth Swinbank of 58 Low King street, Witton Park, Co. Durham. His papers survive on Ancestry. Joseph is buried at Bishop Auckland (Escomb) Cemetery, “C.”
