William Tomlin
William was a Conductor of Ordnance with the Indian Army Ordnance Department.
He was born at Leicester on 15/6/1872.
Originally he appears on the 1891 census as an 18 year old soldier with the 1st Northampton Regiment at Aldershot. The 1st Northants left England for India on 4/10/1892 on board H.M.S. Malabar, arriving in early November of that year.
William appears in the Indian Army Lists for 1912 & 1919, as a Conductor.
He died at Wharncliffe on 7/5/1920 aged 47, his death cert reads –
1. Sarcoma of skull
2. Operation 3 hours
3. Intracranial haemorrhage, PM
His address is given as 68 Catesby street, Leicester.
William is buried at Gilroes Cemetery, Leicester, Section Z, grave 750.
