Nurse Kathleen Howard Bolton's Albums

A short introduction to the album by Kathleen Bolton’s relative Su Reeve,
Su very kindly had the album copied to disc for us.

Aunt Kit as she was called was born Kathleen Howard Bolton on 16th February 1885, in Confey, leixlip, Co Kildare. her farther was Israel Henry Bolton gentleman farmer, later wine merchant. Her mother was Elizabeth Romer nee Fleming. She was the 3rd of 4 children. Kit died 28th October 1963 in Wimbledon.
Kathleen did her nursing training at the Blackburn and East Lancashire Infirmary. In 1911 she returned to Ireland and worked in Dublin. She left there at the end of 1914 to join the QAIMNS. She arrived at Wharncliffe in May 1915. In 1918 she went to Italy but unfortunately became ‘dangerously ill’ in August 1918 and never fully recovered. She spent nearly 2 years in hospital and was medically discharged from nursing. I was always told she had been gassed and lost a lung but I'm not sure if there was any ‘gassing’ in Italy! I do know she only had 1 working lung.
